Welcome to Full Court Press, The Wausonian’s monthly breakdown of the more interesting civil cases filed in Marathon County Court. This edition includes cases filed in the month of December.

It’s been months since Wausau financial advisor Stanley Pophal was indicted on federal charges of stealing from investors. Prosecutors accuse Pophal of essentially running a Ponzi scheme, using investor money to finance a lavish lifestyle.

As that case winds its way through federal court, civil cases are unfolding in the background, mostly unreported on by the rest of the media.

In an earlier edition, we highlighted a case in which developer Mitch Viegut loaned Stanley Pophal $370,000 collatoralized by eight vintage snowmobiles. That case was decided in Viegut’s favor pretty quickly.

The latest involves another loan.
