Brad Emanuel takes the Concerts on the Square stage | Your Wausome Weekend Guide
Wausau events for the week of June 18-25

COTS: The Brad Emanuel Band
UPDATE: Due to potential for storms, this event has been moved to the Rothschild Pavilion starting at 6 pm (doors at 5 pm). See the event page below for more details.
Wednesday, June 18: Brad Emanuel has become quite the musical force in the Wausau area and beyond, and has been a past winner with his band at Hodag. The singer who came up in Wausau has grown a tremendous following, puts together a group of extremely talented musicians for his band and knows how to work a crowd. He’s a professional through and through and often wins area reader survey awards. Check him and his band out on the big stage. 6-8 pm. See the event page for rules and other information. Next week: Sage.
Movie in the Park: Moana 2
Thursday, June 19: Maybe it’s not as exciting as the music concert the night before, but for parents, having an excuse to get the kids out of the house for a bit is pretty exciting! This is the first in the summer movie on the 400 Block series and this week’s selection is Moana 2. Moana 2 takes place three years after the original, with Moana teaming up with a wayfinding crew to find the lost island of Motufetu and break its curse. 7 pm. Free. See the event page for more.
Summer Fun at Mead: Birding Basics
Friday, June 19: If you haven’t been to Mead Wildlife Center, this is a great excuse - learn the basics of birding while in the confines of the scenic wildlife center. This event is free and doesn’t require registration. Who says field trips are just for kids! 10 am to 11:30 am. See the event page for more.
Wausau Night Market
Thursday, June 19: Back for its third year now, the Wausau Night Market brings together dozens of local vendors while the downtown area becomes an impromptu market during the evening hours, when people can actually attend. Think everything from candles to baked goods to scented oils to wearables — plus live music, sidewalk dining and all kinds of other downtown fun. Largely on Third Street downtown from 5-9 pm. Check out the event page for more.
Mark Normand
Friday, June 20: Jerry Seinfeld called Mark Normand one of the top young comedians performing today, and that says something. His 2023 Netflix special crushed it, and that came after his self-released 2020 special garnered 12 million views on YouTube. There are still a handful of tickets left for this show at the Grand Theater, if you’re interested in seeing this talented comedian. 7 pm. $44-$68.75 (VIP tickets available.) See the event page for more.
Summer Tsunami Power Boat Races
Sat.-Sun., June 21-22: This isn’t a stuffy old yacht club - this is powerboat racing with boats speeding along at 50-100 mph on the open water. Not only can you watch the fasted power boat races in central Wisconsin right here at Bluegill Bay Park, but enjoy music from Johnny and the Mo Tones Saturday evening, as well as a Central Wisconsin Water Walkers ski show. $10 per day or $20 per weekend. See more details at the event page. (Specific times oddly aren’t available on the website or Facebook page, other than 8 am Saturday and ending 7 pm Sunday.)
REGI: Winged Wonders
Tuesday, June 26: I don’t know about you, but I just love looking at those big, powerful predatory birds. The Raptor Education Group Inc. has been helping to rescue such birds for a long time, and the group does demonstrations with these hawks, owls and other flying critters. Here is a good chance to see them either in Mosinee at River Park at 1:30 pm or in Edgar at Oak Street Park at 10:30 am. Check out the event page for more.
LAST BRIDGE
Saturday, June 21: If you haven’t been to Tiki Beach, well you’re missing out on one heck of a party spot. Playing for Saturday’s Beach Party is LAST BRIDGE, a band combining the gritty 90s sound with a little bit of rock blues and country. The music and the atmosphere make for a beach party, Wisconsin-style. 6 pm. See the event page for more. (And, if you don’t want to drive that far and prefer the indoors, they’ll be playing at The Garage on Friday at 7 pm.)
Into The Woods
Fri.-Sun, June 20-22: I probably sound like a broken record at this point - but Central Wisconsin Children’s Theater is one of those entities where people if they haven’t seen it will underestimate it because it has the name children in it. But make no mistake - these are high-quality performances. This time CWCT takes on Into the Woods, a medley of fairy tale characters come to life in a new story. Enjoy this humorous and heart-filled tale at the James Veninga Theater at the UW Center for Civic Engagement. Friday 7 pm; Saturday 2 pm and 7 pm; Sunday 2 pm.
The Tamaracks
Friday, June 21: I think it’s really cool that a group of young musicians love the old style of blues rock so much that they’ve made it their sound. The Tamaracks started as a young band in Tomahawk and have made quite a name for themselves playing a ZZ Top-style blues rock that makes for the perfect backdrop to a sunny outing at Stoney Acres Farm Pizza Night in Athens. Music typically runs 5-8 pm. See the event page for more.
In brief
Mia Brown and the Get Down at the Intermission 9 pm Friday (June 20); Read to a Therapy Dog 5:30 pm Thursday at Rothschild Library Thursday (June 19); and Jerry Schmitt Band 6:30 pm Thursday at Tiki Beach. Also, if you haven’t yet seen the new Wausau Ignite softball team play, they’re home at Athletic Park Wednesday (6:35 pm), Thursday for a double-header (5:05 pm and 7:35 pm) and Friday (6:35 pm).
