Day's Bowl-A-Dome can't catch a break | Wausau Tavern Report
Our regular feature looking at police calls to Wausau taverns for the month of September 2025
We think Wausau gets pretty interesting after dark. Here are the significant police calls to Wausau taverns for the last month, plus information about liquor licenses and other bar-related matters.
Last week I mentioned that I had to go digging through the court records to find details because, once again, the tavern report police put together was very light on details. Not this month! Perhaps someone on the force is reading. Either way, I think it’s great because more details not only serve the public with knowledge, but it helps highlight the difficult job police officers do on a daily basis, especially with the bar crowd.
That said, we really wanted the low-down on the Day’s Bowl-A-Dome break-in. An off-duty bartender really went above and beyond - hopefully she gets a raise!
A bartender was hanging out on her day off just to see some of her work friends - but when things didn’t look right, she sprung into action and helped bust a guy now accused of attempting to brazenly steal from the bar.
The whole thing went down after midnight on Sept. 28. Police were called to Day’s Bowl-A-Dome for a report of a man who callers said had walked behind the bar.
According to the criminal complaint, a man named Alexander Mejia walked back behind the bar and was going through the register, taking money. Mejia also went digging through the office itself, police reports say.
Another factor? The bartender on duty was very inebriated, police reports say, and wasn’t in much of a position to stop Mejia.
Another bartender, however, was at the bar to see her friends even though she wasn’t working that night. And she wasn’t having it.
