Dig Deep at Malarkey's | Your Wausome Weekend Guide
Wausau events for the weekend of May 21-27, 2025
Sponsored by
Dig Deep
Friday, May 23: I often have a hard time describing bluegrass bands, so Dig Deep makes it easy - imagine a band with all the chops of a highly skilled bluegrass outfit, but that looks and acts like a heavy metal outfit. The band is starting to get around the U.S. - after the Malarkey’s show, they’re headed out to Colorado and Wyoming. Yet another Stevens Point bluegrass band that’s making it big! 9 pm. See the event page for more.
Silent Book Club
Thursday, May 22: The library has a ton of little events for people but this one caught our eye - a silent book club. The library’s Wausau branch is hosting this event for people who just want some silent reading time, or want an excuse to be around other people while enjoying a good book. They encourage you to bring yourself a snack and or beverage (non-alcoholic) and enjoy the library’s confines with a good book. 5:30 pm. Free. See the event page for more.
Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge
Saturday, May 24: If you’re unfamiliar with adventure racing, it’s a pretty interesting discipline. Your team in this race will bike, run, canoe, orienteer and complete team challenges to work toward being the first to cross the finish line in either a three-hour, eight-hour or 18-hour challenge. You can do them in a 3-4-person team, a 2-person team or solo. This one is held at Granite Peak this year, and it basically turns into a party afterward. (NOTE: 18-hour race starts the Friday night before.) See event page for registration and various start times.
Caleb and Emily Music
Monday, May 26: Memorial Day Weekend is often a slow one in town because so many people head up north to enjoy the three-day weekend. But local musicians Caleb and Emily are working hard, bringing music to folks to enjoy this weekend. On Monday afternoon they’ll bring their talents to Matt’s 101 Pub, for a refreshing acoustic take on some of your favorite hits. And, they’ve done a little writing for us. 3 pm. See the event page for more.
Unbroken, Motherwind and more
Saturday, May 24: Unbroken brings the heat. The distorted guitar-driven riffs and hardcore vocals are heavy yet melodic, making for an interesting sound. This band will highlight a show at Coral Lanes also featuring hard-driving bands Motherwind, Embers Rise, Thereafter and CASHED. Coral Lanes will be the place for a night of heavy music and head-banging. $10. All ages. 5 pm. See the event page for details.
Outlaw’d
Friday, May 23: This a great show for country lovers. Outlaw’d, from the U.P., has been bringing the country heat since 2006 and their experience shows. They’ve played all the great festivals, opened for the likes of The Oak Ridge Boys and Jackson Taylor, and even opened the main stage of Country USA. This promises to be a killer show for The Garage and a great way to kick off your Memorial Day Weekend. 7 pm. See the event page for more details.
