Dirk Quinn Band at Stoney Acres | Your Wausome Weekend Guide
Wausau area events for the week of July 30-Aug. 6, 2025

Dirk Quinn Band
Saturday, Aug. 2: I think it’s a safe bet to say that the Dirk Quinn Band is a great get for Stoney Acres Farm. This high-energy jazz band out of Philadelphia tours the U.S. and Canada pretty extensively, and it’s easy to see why. This jazz/funk band combined jazz phrasings with a jam band sensibility, and it’ll make a great backdrop for a Stoney Acres Pizza Night, which I considered one of my must-dos every summer. Music typically runs 5-8 pm, pizza night itself runs 4-8:30 pm. Check out the event page for more.
Architectural Amble: Schofield
Thursday, July 31: These architectural ambles are a blast - you get a little bit of a walk in while taking in some history lessons from places you’ve probably walked or driven past many times without thinking much about them. This one takes place in Schofield on what historically was a trolley route. Meets at the Eau Claire Street and Old Grand Avenue intersection. 6 pm. See the event page for more details.
Straight, No Chaser: The 90s Part II
Thursday, July 31: I know, I know, you think a capella group and you imagine Andy Bernarde trying to relive his old college days. But Straight, No Chaser turns that on its head with performances that have earned the group gold records and acclaim worldwide. This time they tackle the 90s hits from the pop, boy band and R&B genres (good, because I am just not ready for a capella “Smells Like Teen Spirit”). 7:30 pm. $51-$83. See the event page for more.
Jazz on the River: John Greiner and Tom Washatka
Sunday, Aug. 4: John Greiner is a real Wausau success story. He graduated from Wausau West before joining the U.S. Air Force band. He then gained entry to the Berklee School of Music in Boston, where he launched a long musical career, including performing with greats such as Dizzie Gillespie, Stan Getz, Aretha Franklin and Frankie Vallee among many others. Check out Greiner as he partners up with Tom Washatka for a duo that you won’t want to miss. Sunday as part of the Jazz on the River series. 5-7 pm. Rain location is Malarkey’s Pub. Food trucks on site. Bring a chair. More details at the event page.
Barnyard Bash
Monday, Aug. 5: Since people didn’t get to experience the animal part of the Park Department’s Summer Kickoff Party, this special event allows your young ones to meet a few cuddly critters. Come hang out with goats, rabbits and other animals, and pet them, feed them and learn a little more about them. Come check them out anytime between 10 am and noon at Oak Island Park. Free. Check out the event page for more.
Pizza in the Orchard
Thursday, July 31: It’s a pizza-heavy event guide this week, what can I say? Pizza in the Orchard is a bit of a different experience. The orchard focuses on cider, which is available on site along with a full bar, and they serve their pizza as a buffet, along with salad and a dessert. And instead of hanging out on a farm, you’re hanging out amongst some apple trees. But it’s a good time, and this event features the music of 8 Second Ride. $20 for pizza buffet, discounts for children. 5 pm. See the event page for details.
In brief
Quenten Brown, Saturday, Aug. 2 (7:30 pm) at Malarkey’s Pub; Whitewater Park Rec Release, Sat-Sun Aug. 2-3, Whitewater Park; Old Pine Road Band at Concerts on the Square, Wednesday July 30, The 400 Block.
Upcoming
The Righteous Brothers
Thursday, Aug. 21: The Grand Theater has had some pretty big shows lately - they’ve been hosting once-per-season gets all summer, with The Wallflowers coming up, and shows by Old Crow Medicine Show and comedian Mark Normand. Next up is The Righteous Brothers, and tickets are selling out fast. If you’ve ever lost that loving feeling, you know what band I’m talking about. The group, originally formed by Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield in 1963, but now comprised of Medley and Bucky Heard, has been around for more than sixty years. They’re responsible for numerous hits including “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling,” “Just Once in My Life,” and their cover of “Unchained Melody” (which really blew up after it appeared in 1990’s Ghost). This is their farewell tour, so if you’re a fan of The Righteous Brothers you’re not going to want to miss out on your tickets. $68-$104. 7:30 pm. See the event page for tickets and more details.
