Food Truck Rally and Book Fair | Your Wausome Weekend Guide
Wausau area events for the week of Sept. 17-24, 2025

RiverWest Food Truck Rally and Concert
Saturday, Sept. 20: One of the interesting surprises that came up with the Wausau River District is that people associate it with the downtown on the east side of the river. But a big portion of the RiverWest neighborhood across the river is also part of the district! The Food Truck Rally aims to draw attention to that area with its many great businesses. And many of those businesses will have their own mini events, such as the Milk Merchant hosting a beer garden, Katzenbarkers hosting an adoption event and the book fair mentioned below. Plus music from Jordan Bain and Old Pine Road will entertain food truck enthusiasts. 4-8 pm. Free to attend, but of course you’ll have to pay for any food truck food you buy. See the event page for more details, including the food truck lineup (which is extensive).
Local Author Book Fair
Saturday, Sept. 20: The Wausonian was one of the first news orgs to report on The Story Cellar, a cool little book shop in the RiverWest neighborhood. They buy and sell used books along with new books, with a little bit of coffee on tap and some nooks for people to nestle themselves into. Now they’ve got a pretty cool idea here: A local author book fair. Come check out some of the area’s authors (more than a dozen) with book signings, books for purchase and more. Plus, it’s happening during the above-mentioned food truck fest which seems like good timing. 4 pm. See the event page for more.
Home, I’m Darling
Thurs.-Sun., Sept. 18-21: The Wausau Community Theater group has been working hard to turn the ship around after some financial difficulties, and that meant finding new venues for their performances. So this production of Home, I’m Darling will take place at the UW Center for Civic Engagement. This play is the story of a couple that is so obsessed with the 50s that they model their lives around living the traditional lifestyle - even to the point where the wife quits her job to be a full-time housewife. But this comedy asks - are they going too far? 7 pm Thursday through Saturday with a 2 pm Matinee Sunday that’s sold out. $20. Check out the ticket page for more.
Here Comes the Mummies
Saturday, Sept. 20: Given the popularity of this unique band, I am surprised that there are still a decent number of tickets available to this Grand Theater show. One of the more unique acts in the world of music (I mean, they dress up like mummies and play some gnarly horn-driven funk), Here Come the Mummies have shared the stage with Al Green, KC and the Sunshine Band, Cheap Trick and many more; been a regular on the Bob and Tom Show, played in Super Bowl Village and highlighted festivals such as Summerfest. While the setup might sound gimmicky, the Mummies are exceptionally talented and their set is tight. (They also bring a ton of humor to their songs.) 7:30 pm. $58-78. Check out the event page for more.
An Historical Walk through Pine Grove Cemetery
Sunday, Sept. 21: If you’ve never done this walk, it is seriously cool. Members of the Marathon County Historical Society dress up like some of Wausau’s historical figures and re-enact them for people taking the tour. You’ll learn some history about some of the important figures that shaped Wausau’s history, and get a little walking in as well. Tours run between 11 am with the last tour leaving at 2 pm, rain or shine at Pine Grove Cemetery. More details and reserve your spot (though they also encourage walkups) at the event page.
BAMM
Friday, Sept. 19: The description for this Madison-area band is that they are “genre-bending” and frankly, I can see why. BAMM’s (Bo Allen Messer) music is a little mix of blues, R&B, jazz and some Phish-like jam band sense. They’re a unique act and if you’re looking for something that’s a little funky and chill at the same time, this is worth a stop down to Malarkey’s Pub. 9 pm. See the event page for more.
Oktoberfest
Saturday, Sept. 20: Fall is my favorite season for a number of reasons (it’s the perfect temperature but unlike spring, things are usually dry). But one of my biggest reasons is that it is Oktoberfest season, which means drinking beer. Uncommon Pints will host this Oktoberfest with more than 10 tap lines of Oktoberfest and festbier beers on tap, plus a stein-holding contest and music from Caleb and Emily. Starts at 3 pm. See the event page for more.
