Wausau area events for the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 4, 2025

Halloween Party with The Missing Miles
Friday, Oct. 31: The Missing Miles have been around for a hot minute - so long that it’s hard for me not to remember them as Red Ben and the Missing Miles. This talented bluegrass group has some chops and while you might have an image of what they’ll sound like, they’re just a little different than you might expect, with a little bit of jazziness and folk element to their style. Come check them out at Intermission, which has a pretty cool live event space. 9:30 pm. See the event page for more.
Halloween Party with Mia Brown and the Get Down
Friday, Oct. 31: Mia Brown is one of my favorite local-gal-done-good stories out of the Wausau area. She’s from here and is now a Nashville-signed recording artist. Here Brown will be joined by her talented backing band The Get Down for a night of great covers and some of her excellent originals, along with a little Halloween fun at Malarkey’s Pub. 8 pm. Check out the event page for more. (Note: Malarkey’s page says 8 pm, though the Facebook event says 9:30 pm.)
History Speaks: The Great Gatsby Cooking and Entertaining
Saturday, Nov. 1: If you haven’t read The Great Gatsby in a while, it’s worth another look. Besides the story itself and what it says about appearances vs reality, the book is a great window into how young people thought at the time. Join Veronica Hinke, author of The Last Night on The Titanic: Unsinkable Drinking, Dining & Style; Titanic: The Official Cookbook and Harry Potter Afternoon Tea Magic for an afternoon at the Woodson History Center diving into the dishes and drinks found at those legendary Gatsby parties. 2 pm. Free. See the event page for more.
Miss Wausau Area Competition
Saturday, Nov. 1: I know this competition must have existed around here before, but this is the first time I’ve seen it advertised in the places I search for upcoming events. This competition helps instill confidence and networking skills, according to the event organizers, and helps provide scholarships for its entrants. Winners at this event at the UW Center for Civic Engagement will advance to the Miss Wisconsin and Miss Teen Wisconsin competitions representing our area. 4 pm. $15. See the event page for more.
Wausau Ski Swap
Saturday, Nov. 1: Let’s face it, ski equipment is expensive and it ain’t getting any cheaper. That applies whether you’re talking about downhill or cross-country skiing. This annual ski swap, which has been going on for decades now, is a great way to get some deals on ski equipment. Come on down to East Gate Hall in Marathon Park Saturday morning if you’re looking for new (to you) ski equipment at a good price. And if you’re looking to get rid of some stuff? You can do that too, by showing up at East Gate Hall Friday evening from 5-7 pm or Saturday morning from 8 am-10:30 am. Public sale from 11 am-3 pm. (Word to the wise: it’s been awhile since I’ve gone, but generally the best stuff sells out fast.) See the event page for more details.
Bizhiki
Tuesday, Nov. 4: Hailed as one of First Avenue’s best new bands of the year in 2024, and produced by a member of Bon Iver, Bizhiki is definitely not the kind of music you’re likely used to. Most people would put them in the category of world music, and that comes out in this wide-ranging, complex and multi-layered sound. And since this is part of the Grand’s Community Engagement Series, the concert is free. 7:30 pm. Check out the event page for more.
