UPDATED: Is Gender Queer going to get the library canceled?
The Wausonian is trying to get answers from library staff about the status of the book, while rumors of a budget amendment this week to defund the library surface

I was a bit surprised to see a story in another Substack publication (paywalled) that, according to the post, Gender Queer was back on the Marathon County Public Library shelves and available for children of all ages. And now it looks like it may (not yet confirmed) be related to an effort by some county board members to defund the library.
I was surprised by this because I had initially reported that the book was under review after I got a tip that it would come up at a Library Board meeting last month (I was the first to report this). A tip was required because it wasn’t on the board’s agenda. People brought it up during the board’s public comment period. This was encouraged by the Republican Party of Marathon County, which put out a Facebook flyer encouraging people to speak out.
