11-11 Party
Saturday, Nov. 8: The 11-11 Party is one of those unique Wausau events that signals a time of year - in this case, that the holiday season is coming. Basically the Grand Theater becomes one giant dance party and every year has a theme. It was one of those events I never highlighted because, well, by the time I would have done so, tickets were long sold out. That hasn’t been the case lately, with tickets available as I write this! That means I have an opportunity to share it with you all. This year’s theme is 80s prom, with music from Boogie and the YoYoz and Scott King from Miami, and that Wausau-famous balloon drop that caps off this unique event. 7:30 pm. $67 (including the fees). Check out the event page for more.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Fri-Sun., Nov. 7-9: OK, so I fully admit that whenever I see this musical come up, I think of that episode of The Office where Andy Bernard gets the gang to come see his performance. But the Wausau Community Theater is bound to do a little better than Andy did, as their performances never fail to hit the mark. Sweeney Todd is the story of a barber done wrong by a judge who then ravages his wife after exiling him. Todd returns to 19th-century London to exact his revenge in an unusual way. WCT will bring this tale to life at the UW Center for Civic Engagement. 7:30 pm Nov 7-8; 2 pm Nov. 8-9. Adults $27.64 with fees, discounts for seniors and children. See the event page for more.
2025 Hmong New Year
Sat.Sun., Nov. 8-9: For many of us, New Year’s happens after Christmas, and involves a potentially heavy amount of drinking - though increasingly non-alcoholic options are gaining popularity. But for Wausonians who are Hmong, New Year’s is this weekend! Celebrating the traditional end of the harvest season, come to the Central Wisconsin Convention and Expo Center to celebrate with traditional dance, music, food and more at this extravaganza. $5 per day. Children five and under, and seniors over 65, enter free. 7 am to 5 pm Saturday, 7 am to 3 pm Sunday. Check out the event page for more.
NRW Wrestling
Saturday, Nov. 8: OK, I almost spit out my coffee when I randomly came across the poster for this event. A wrestling event coming to the Elk’s Lodge? And I almost spit out more coffee when I saw that NRW - which stands for No Regrets Wrestling - is based in Central Wisconsin. But yes, this rowdy group of brawlers is coming to the Elk’s Club. Personally, I’m still in wonder that there is a wrestling outfit in central Wisconsin, has been since 2022, and I haven’t heard of it. Fascinating. $20. 7 pm. $20. (Children 10 and under $10.) Check out the event poster here.
Wausau Children’s Business Fair
Saturday, Nov. 8: Entrepreneurship is great. Ask me how I know! So this event at the Boys and Girls Club of Wausau, which encourages children to make their own products and sell them at this business fair, is a wonderful idea. Not much else to say here except it’s a good chance to get out and support the efforts of young entrepreneurs! 9 am to noon. Free to attend. Check out the event page for details.
BluezDriver
Saturday, Nov. 8: I get excited when I come across a hard-driving blues band with some dirty, gritty fuzz-driven guitar. So Wausau-based BluezDriver definitely fits the bill with some loud, fuzzy blues guitar like ZZ Top mixed with the happening hotspot that is The Garage, this should make for a great live music outing. 7 pm. See the event page for more.
