Joe Kaplow at Lamplight Sessions | Your Wausome Weekend Guide
Wausau events for the week of June 11-18, 2025
Sponsored by
Joe Kaplow
Saturday, June 14: Most of Lamplight Sessions’ shows sell out these days, but as of this writing there are still tickets for this show. Joe Kaplow’s is a vintage folk sound, with the kind of songwriting that makes you feel chill but has interesting harmonies and sounds swirling beneath the surface. Think of a bluegrass aesthetic with modern recording and layering capabilities that make it transcend the genre. Sleeping Jesus has a modern indie pop groove that’s laid back and breezy. 7 pm. Check out the event page for tickets.
7th Annual Ice Age Trail Hike-a-thon
Saturday, June 14: Sometimes you just want to get out in nature by yourself, without other humans around - but other times, it’s fun to have some friends or meet some new people to hike with. The hike-a-thon, in its 7th year, includes a shuttle to the start of various hikes on the Plover River segment of the Ice Age Trail, with hikes ranging from 2.8 miles to 5.8 miles with all hikes ending at the Highway HH parking lot. Check-in is from 8 am to 11 am but you must finish and check out by 3 pm. $25 adults. Check out the event page for all the details.
Community Cultures Fest
Saturday, June 14: Put on by Mosaic, this event aims to spread the word about various cultures in our community. Expect food, vendors, live performances, music and more at this event on the 400 Block in Wausau. 10 am-4 pm. Check out the event page for more.
Dragon Training Academy
Tuesday, June 17: OK, this one is for the kids but dang does it sound fun! Inventor & time traveler Brock Barnabas will bring your whole family from Oak Island Park back to the medieval times to combat a dragon infestation and, wouldn’t you know it, one of those critters manages to come back to our time! And afterward you and the kids can meet and greet with a baby animatronic dragon. 10 am. Free. Another show in Spencer at 1:30 pm. Check out the event page.

Alex Dalnodar and Kevin Troestler
Thursday, June 12: Sconni’s used to have a lot of music events and so it’s nice to see another back on the schedule. Alex Dalnodar is the lead singer of Dig Deep, but here he’ll be joining country musician Kevin Troestler for what should be a pretty epic night of music. 5 pm. See the event page for more.
Bob Allen
Sunday, June 15: Bob Allen is an extremely talented guitarist and singer, and I don’t just say that because I used to be in a band with him in my 20s. Normally he’s fronting the equally talented Allen Brothers Band but for this one he’s solo. Allen has a unique voice that helps him stand out from the crowd, and its one that fans have come to really like him for. Come enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon at The Garage with some great music on tap. 1-4 pm. See the event page for more.
All-Out Mutiny
Friday, June 13: Yeah, sometimes you just want to really crank up the distortion, get that double-kick-drum pedal to work and make some loud, screaming metal. All-Out Mutiny, a long-surviving Wausau band, has you covered as they take to Nevermore on Third Friday night. This heavy group is headlining a show that also includes Catastrophic Heroes and As Bullets Baptize. $5. 9:30 pm. Check out the event page for more.
Clear Lightning Sky
Saturday, June 14: This is an up-and-coming band to keep an eye out for. Clear Lightning Sky appears to have just formed this year, but this bluesy rock band is already booking a summer full of gigs around central Wisconsin. Vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Amy Prescot has a powerful blues voice and an extremely talented backing band makes this a band to look out for, and you’ll want to give them a look at The Intermission Bar this Saturday. 9 pm. See the event page for more.
In brief
Also worth noting this week is the Ross Thorn Band playing at the Concerts on the Square series Wednesday (June 11); the Ironbull Solstice Summit at Granite Peak on Saturday (June 14); The St. Anne’s Fest at St. Anne’s Parish Friday and Saturday (June 13-14) with Jerry Schmidt on Friday; the Trek WORS Series mountain bike races Fri-Sun (June 13-15) at Nine Mile Forest Recreation Area; and country singer Meaghan Owens at Stoney Acres Farm on Friday (June 13).
Upcoming
The Wallflowers
Thursday, Aug. 7: I admit, this one kind of caught me off-guard. The Wallflowers’ second album, Bringing Down the Horse, is one of my favorite albums of the 90s, and “One Headlight” is one of those songs that reminds me of a certain time in my life. But I didn’t realize that other than a brief hiatus from 2006-2010, the band really never stopped. Helmed by Jakob Dylan, Bob Dylan’s son, The Wallflowers is one of those bands that got big but also somehow seemed to stay under the radar to a degree. Dylan was also part of Echo in the Canyon, a documentary on Netflix where he and other musicians retrace the history of some of the great 60s musicians of Laurel Canyon (including Jade Castrinos formerly of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros). 8 pm. $54-84. Check out the event page for more.
