A parish is suing the village of Kronenwetter over a zoning decision that allowed for non-metallic mining on nearby property, in violation of village law.

St. Therese of the Child JesusParish filed a lawsuit in May asking a court to review a decision by the village to approve a change in zoning that allows for the non-metallic mining use.

The proposed mine planning on locating within the Kronenwetter village limits was controversial when the conditional use permit was ultimately approved by the village board earlier this year.

Kronenwetter’s board in January approved the controversial conditional use permit for the mine north of Maple Ridge Road and east of Highway 39. That decision came despite outrage from residents about the potential for noise, pollution, traffic and declining property values due to the mine’s operation.

The rezoning was then approved in April.

But St. Therese of the Child Jesus had its own concerns, including how the zoning was approved. And now it is asking a court to review that decision.
