Little Tortilla | Your Wausome Weekend Guide
Wausau area events for the week of Oct. 15-Oct. 21
Sponsored by
Jesse and the Medicine Men
Friday, Oct. 17: Jesse and the Medicine Men are one of those groups that look and sound the part - the group is country through and through. If you love country, this is a band you won’t want to miss, with influences ranging from Hank Williams to Elvis Presley to Muddy Waters. The band has a new album out, called “Little Tortilla,” and we’ve included a video of the title track. The big stage at Bull Falls Brewing Company is perfect for this veteran country group. 5 pm. Check out the event page for more.
Gardens at Twilight
Friday, Oct. 17: All controversies aside, the Monk Gardens are a particularly beautiful area of Wausau. This event celebrates that with a gentle walk through the gardens as the sun sets. Stop out to the gardens for a walk on a gently-lit path with cider, hot chocolate, S’mores and other goodies along the way. And bring a little extra cash if you would like to purchase some adult beverages and/or light-up accessories. Children’s activities will be available as well. 5 pm. $10. Children 2 and younger enter free. See the event page for details.
Empty Bowls Dinner
Saturday, Oct. 18: OK, this one is for those wealthier individuals in town, but it is indeed for a good cause. Check out the Tebo and Tilly’s space, transformed under the guidance of Evolution in Design’s Randy Verhasselt, enjoy a multi-course farm-to-table dinner by Wausau’s best and up-and-coming local chefs, and enjoy a cocktail hour courtesy of Juliett and Forward Beverage, and support a great cause in what was once the warehouse for The Neighbors’ Place (the fundraiser is for them), and is now a spectacular venue. 6 pm. $200. Check out the event page for more.
HOLA’s Second Anniversary
Saturday, Oct. 18: This one looks like it’s going to be one wild party! This event at the Central Wisconsin Convention and Expo Center celebrates the cultures of the Latin American countries and the people of their origins who now live here. Expect a night of dancing, great food, live music, art and other fun at this festive event. 3 pm. $10, children attend free. See the event page for tickets and more information.
iLuminate
Saturday, Oct. 18: I’m always excited when I see this one return to the Grand Theater stage. This group is almost like watching a comic book on stage, based on the effect this neon light against a dark backdrop performance creates. You’ve never seen a dance show like this, in which special lighting and software creates an almost real-time illustration of dance. If you haven’t, it’s worth seeing even if dancing isn’t generally your thing. 7:30 pm. $44-$81. Check out the event page for more.
Timekeeper Distillery Anniversary Party
Saturday, Oct. 18: It seems like only yesterday I was standing in the old train depot that would become Timekeeper Distillery - and now they’re celebrating seven years! Timekeeper’s owners are throwing a huge party to celebrate - and that means live music from Chad O’Brien, food from Wish Food Truck, three spirit releases including a THC alternative spirit, and various surprises throughout the night. No tickets necessary, just come ready to have fun. 6 pm. See the event page for more details.
Artist Lecture Series: Tony Drehfal
Thursday, Oct. 16: Tony Drehfal is an artist who creates some incredible wood-engraved pieces. In this lecture series, the first of three, he will detail his 23-year journey through this medium and how he creates the incredible work he produces. Three more lectures are planned, and he’s been hosting wood-engraving classes at the museum as well. 6 pm. Free. Check out the event page and see other events in the series as well.
