Perfectly Wausonian No.1: Dave Kallaway

In this series we ask some of the better-known Wausonians for their recommendations, and in doing so, get to know them better.

Dave Kallaway

One of my favorite new Substack publications is Perfectly Imperfect. It’s another Substack publication in which the three authors collect recommendations from some of the cooler folks out there. The result is fascinating because they end up being mini-profiles of some of the more interesting figures in New York life.

Well, good artists borrow, great artists steal, right? So I thought I would try out a version for The Wausonian. It would add a little lighter content and plus, I love recommendations. It used to be one of the primary ways I would find new shows to watch, along with music and local restaurants.

So each Wausonian featured will be instructed to provide a little bio about themselves and provide 5-6 recommendations. They could be anything and everything; they could all be Wausau-based, none of them Wausau-based, or some combination thereof. They will go out to paid subscribers first, and release a week later to regular readers.

And so without further ado, our first guest is…

You know Dave Kallaway. He’s as well known for his photography as he is for his time on the radio at WIFC. Kallaway has a radio voice, and is one of the nicest people in Wausau. He’s always ready to lend a hand, no questions asked, and somehow is always positive. Here are five recommendations from Kallaway.

Ruby Coffee

I drink a lot of coffee..the stronger the better on heavy duty work days. I found Ruby Coffee at the IronBull races recently while MCing it..and whoa..I would normally doctor up my coffee with cream and sugar..but there was no need for that..it tasted terrific straight up black! Yum!

Hoka Running Shoes

A friend of mine was about to run in a 5K and surprisingly said "you need to try on my shoes"..so I did and have been wearing Hokas ever since.

The Rosewood Barn, Gleason

Doing any event at the Rosewood Barn in Gleason. I say this because I did just that. I was asked to DJ a Disco at this barn and the event coordinators were amazing..just the best..the atmosphere couldn't be better for having a fun time. Disco music did help...LOL.

Facebook support groups

These vary from subject to subject and I've found the ones on photography, Club DJing, Aviation, are all helpful. My fav for just fun is called "Bad DJ Set Ups"...LOL. And

Signature local beers

One of the signature local beers made for special events. 2 brews I suggest..the one that Bull Falls Brewery made for the Taste n' Glow Balloon Fest...Called Taste the Glow. And the other.."One Lap Pony" that Red Eye made for the IronBull Red Granite Grinder bike races. This a terrific trend..making beers for events in our area..makes it extra special!!!

Thanks to Dave for participating in this first edition of Perfectly Wausonian! I want to hear your feedback - like it, love it, really love it? No really, let me know. Comments will be open to everyone for this one.
