Police investigated an incident at IDEA Charter School and officials aren't saying much
People with inside knowledge say students were planning a shooting
A letter sent to parents of the IDEA Charter School in the D.C. Everest School District references an incident that involved a threat.
Though the letter is vague, sources with inside knowledge of the situation told The Wausonian off the record that the threat involved a planned shooting.
Here is the timeline provided by the Idea School Principal in his letter on Monday, which The Wausonian obtained a copy of:
The situation developed because of a conversation between three students on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 17.
Information about the discussion was shared with the Mountain Bay Metro Police Department on Thursday, December 18. At that point, they begin [sic] their investigative work.
The school district began to do our investigation on Friday, December 19.
We connected with all families directly identified in the threat. It was determined that those students and staff were included based on who was visible at the moment the list was created, rather than because of any grievance.
Students returned to IDEA and Odyssey on Friday (12/19), because our law enforcement partners deemed that this was safe to do so.
The letter also says that some are spreading misinformation about the incident online. But that’s more likely when officials are vague about details. The Wausonian learned more specifics about the incident, and they’re troubling.
