Seth Brown Duo, Concerts on the Square kick off and more | Your Wausome Weekend Guide
Wausau events for the week of June 4-11, 2025
Sponsored by
Seth Brown Duo
Friday, June 6: This vagabond duo (their words!) met in Nashville and now call the U.P. their home, but they travel the Midwest with their mix of outlaw country with roots rock that is a joy to watch, while looking like a pair of traveling musicians from the 60s out on the road. Check them out while you’re in town and you can grab one of Uncommon Pints’ uncommon pints while you enjoy the music (they feature taps from smaller breweries that otherwise don’t get featured often). 7 pm. Check out the event page for more.
Concerts on the Square
Wednesday, June 4: Today’s the day! Kicking off this downtown concerts is Rising Phoenix, but more importantly, you’ll now have a weekly excuse to meet up with your friends, drink a cold one or two and enjoy some music on a summer evening in downtown Wausau. 6 pm. See the event page for the rules and what food vendors will be there. Coming up: June 11 is the chill bluegrass vibes of the Ross Thorn Band.
Sculpture Garden Yoga
Thursday, June 5: Yoga is great and free yoga is even better! Come bring your yoga mat and water bottle to the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum and enjoy yoga from one of the teachers from 5 Koshas Yoga Studio. And the museum will be open afterwards if you want to check out the exhibits (well-played, Woodson). Free but registration is required. 5:30 pm. See the event page for more details and registration link.
Free Water Ski Show
Thursday, June 5: There’s always a debate about when to highlight these for people since there are two per week throughout the summer! Right now the Central Wisconsin Water Walkers are on a “The Price is Right” theme and even got themselves a copy of the Price is Right wheel to use in the show. Thursdays at Lake DuBay, and Tuesdays at Bluegill Bay Park in Rib Mountain. 6:30 pm. Free. See the event page (linked to the list of events) to learn more.
Family Pride Fest and Pride at Night
Saturday, June 7: This event has always been divided into the all-ages event held at the 400 Block from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, featuring informational booths, bounce houses and other kids activities plus live entertainment; and a more adult-oriented night event at the Central Wisconsin Convention and Expo Center in Rothschild. The latter event at 7:30 pm (with a limited meet and greet at 6:30 pm) features headliner Vanessa Vanjie from RuPaul’s Drag Race, with a dance party to follow. See the event page for the family fest here, and the night show here.
Tom Pease
Tuesday, June 10: Children’s entertainer Tom Pease has been around for a long time, entertaining children and now children of those children. Pease is a master at entertaining children, full of expression and joy that gets kids up and moving. The Marathon County Public Library System is hosting two Pease events in Rothschild and Hatley. Pease will be at George Street Park in Rothschild at 1:30 pm (with the village community room as a rain location) and at the Hatley Library at 10:30 am (inside the library in case of rain. See the Hatley event here, and the Rothschild event here.
Brett Westgrove
Saturday, June 7: The Garage hasn’t been shy about hosting country bands. And Brett Westgrove is not shy about playing at The Garage, as he’s back this Saturday for another go. Westgrove bills himself as “country’s redneck rocket surgeon,” and if you’re wondering what that means, it’s because Westgrove spent a lot of time as an engineer at NASA commanding space vehicles before selling everything he owned to move to Nashville. If that’s not dedication, I don’t know what is. 7 pm. Check out the event page for more.
Spicy Tie Band at Rock Ridge Orchard Pizza Night
Friday, June 6: Did you know there is more than one pizza farm? Stoney Acres is great but Rock Ridge Orchard does it a little differently and it’s good to change things up once in a while. Enjoy the pizza buffet plus music from Spicy Tie Band. It’s a good time out in the orchard. Doors at 5 pm, music starts at 6:30 pm. Check out the event page for more.
The Vox Ultimate, Hollow Flowers and Wednsdays.
Friday, June 6: With all the new kinds of music they’re coming up with nowadays, it’s nice to see a band that’s going back to the alternative rock roots of the 90s and earlier 2000s. The Vox Ultimate does that with some unique twists on the genre, making them a Wausau band worth keeping an eye on. Joining them for this show are Stevens Point shoegaze band Hollow Flowers and the Wausau funky/heavy Wednsdays. All in the gothic Poe-inspired confines of Nevermore on Third. 9:30 pm. Check out the event page for more.
Upcoming
Mark Normand
Friday, June 20: Jerry Seinfeld called Mark Normand one of the top young comedians performing today, and that says something. His 2023 Netflix special crushed it, and that came after his self-released 2020 special garnered 12 million views on YouTube. Tickets are already getting scarce for this show, so you might want to pick up your tickets now if you’re interested in seeing this talented comedian. 7 pm. $44-$68.75 (VIP tickets available.) See the event page for more.
Three Grand Theater shows from the theater’s new season
The Grand Theater released its next season lineup. Here are three we think go above and beyond and are worth putting on your calendar:
The Addams Family (Oct. 14-15): The Addams Family was one of those shows my parents delighted in showing me as a kid, since it was something they watched as a child. Now a musical comedy, The Addams Family’s wacky cast of characters as they meet the normal family of Wednesday Addams. And it’s an all-ages show so you can bring your kids.
Mark Twain Tonight (Feb. 17): Did you know there is actual video of Mark Twain? You can see this soundless video of Twain in his later years right now on YouTube. There was a wax reel of him speaking too, apparently, but it is believed to have been recorded over. Anyway this production brings the Twain experience to life, written by Hal Holbrook and played by actor Richard Thomas, the only one authorized by the estate to lend his voice to Twain.
Lithium Experience (Jan. 24): This isn’t the first Classic Albums show to hit the Grand Theater, but it is the first in which the “classic” bands involved are from my teen years, and I don’t think I am ready for this. But the band celebrates my youthful favorites including Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Alanis Morrisette and more. I look forward to this official kick-off of my mid-life crisis. Quick, someone buy me a motorcycle.
