Shrek: The Musical
Thurs.-Sun,, Feb. 12-15: Productions from the Central Wisconsin Education Theatre Alliance are not to be underestimated. They’re top-notch shows you won’t want to miss! In this play, they’re taking on Shrek: The Musical. One of Pixar’s standout hits that helped popularize computer-generated, animated films, Shrek is a powerful story about being a little different and the cast and crew of CWETA aim to bring the musical version to life in this high-energy, family-friendly show at the Wausau West High School Theater. 7 pm Thurs.-Sat., 1:30 pm Sunday. $25, $20 for children, students and seniors. See the event page for more.

Snowshoe Walk with Buffet
Thursday, Feb. 12: Always great to see another snowshoe option! The Snowshoe Walk at the Willow Springs Gardens allows folks to wander the snowshoe course around the beautiful grounds at their leisure, and enjoy a tasty buffet if they like afterwards. They even have some headlamps available (since it will probably be dark by the time you go out). The buffet includes a mix of foods including soups, sandwiches and snacks to enjoy. $30, $10 for just the snowshoeing, $20 for just the buffet, discounts for children. See the event page for more.
42nd Annual Antique Show and Sales
Sat.-Sun, Feb. 14-15: I had to laugh the other day when I saw a popular young influencer talking about discovering antiquing. It’s coming around full circle! Antiques are great because they’re both practical by adding decor to your home while also representing history. This annual show at the Central Wisconsin Convention and Expo Center will feature two days of more than 50 booths for antiques, vintage items and farmland assortments to keep you occupied. 9 am to 5 pm Saturday, 10 am to 3 pm Sunday. $7, covers both days (children 16 and under enter free). See the event page for more.
Candlelight: Valentine’s Day Special
Saturday, Feb. 14: These candlelight shows at St. Stephen’s Church have gotten rave reviews, and they usually sell out fast. This show features a 60-minute performance of the Vivaldi Four Seasons Concertos along with some other carefully selected pieces by the Listeso String Quartet. Speaking of selling out, this performance is no exception as only one of the three zones still has tickets available. If you’re looking for a romantic concert experience, this is a good bet. 8:30 pm. $47. See the event page for more.
The Dead Sweetheart’s Ball
Saturday, Feb. 14: Nevermore on Third is known for its gothic, Edgar Allen Poe aesthetic, and so this Valentine’s Day offering just makes sense. This darker take on Valentine’s Day will feature the band Trigger Tripper playing some dark murder ballads, songs of lost love and other thematic tunes. And attendees are encouraged to wear all black. You know if this is for you or not. 7 pm. See the event page for more.
MusiKaravan
Saturday, Feb. 14: Most musical acts, when you look up their YouTube channels, have a bunch of music videos at the ready. MusiKaravan is a little different - the duo shares their story about packing up their violins and traveling around in their 71 VW bus. These classical violinists travel the country in their van, playing shows and documenting their adventures (and misadventures) on YouTube. They’ll make their way to the Merrill High School Auditorium this Saturday for one of those traveling performances, which are different every time. It’s part of the Merrill Area Concert Association, which only sells season tickets. 7 pm. Check out more at their website. (There are only two concerts left but MACA season ticket holders get access to Antigo and Medford concerts as well.)
Mark Twain Tonight
Tuesday, Feb. 17: Richard Thomas isn’t just any Mark Twain impersonator — he’s an Emmy-award-winning actor who brings America’s original humorist to life in this mesmerizing performance. No stranger to Broadway or TV screens (Thomas played Nathan Davis on Ozark), Thomas nails this performance as the great American writer and satirist Mark Twain, and he brings that performance to the Grand Theater. 7:30 pm. $64-$124. See the event page for more.
Bend and Blend
Thursday, Feb. 12: Shelves of Aeaea just moved into the former October Guitars location right next to The Milk Merchant, as we highlighted in a story last Demember. And now the two are partnering for this unique event! Participants will start with a tea-sipping welcome and a heart-opening yoga class, and a ritual of intention at Shelves of Aeaea. That will be followed by some treats and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available) at The Milk Merchant. 5 pm. $45 ($25 without yoga). See the event page for more details.
BONUS: Last UWSP at Wausau men’s basketball game - ever: Just in with a last-minute addition - the UWSP at Wausau men’s basketball team will play its last home game at 6:15 pm tonight (Wednesday) at the UWSP-Wausau Field House. As in, last ever, coaches tell The Wausonian, since the program won’t be available when UWSP-Wausau moves to the Northcentral Technical College campus. The Huskies went 11-6 and earned a No. 2 seed in the playoffs this year. While we don’t usually highlight sports in this section, that seemed like a historic moment to mark.
