Subscriber post: What's happening at North Central Health Care?
The library director's departure is understood; but NCHC's CEO being placed on leave is shrouded in mystery and has some local officials raging
Sorry for the repeat for paid subscribers! It was supposed to be the teaser for non-paid subscribers but I went back to change something and it reverts to subscriber only.
Thursday, May 27 was a weird day in Wausau. It started out with the resignation of the Marathon County Library Director. The resignation came before a closed session of the Marathon County Library Board to discuss allegations that included a toxic work culture and possibly sexual harassment.
Media was out in full force for that one, and it was well covered.
I was, however, the only reporter as far as I know covering another shakeup (at least initially) that appears potentially far more sinister.
The best tips often seem a bit vague. I’m not sure why it works that way, but the vaguer the tip, the juicier they seem to be. Maybe it’s because they tend to come from well-connected people.
Such was the tip I received from a pretty well connected person pointing me to the North Central Health Care Board’s 3 pm meeting. I of course wouldn’t dare share my source. I now have a couple related to the matter. I scanned the agenda and I couldn’t help but think it looked pretty plain, although closed sessions always catch my attention. They’re almost always vaguely worded. Intentionally so, I am sure.
I called in as per instructions, and let the hold music drone on in the background while I worked on other projects. I got kicked off several times because, of course, WebEx sucks. Then, I was in.
It sounded like the start of an open session, completely with someone telling the room they are on mute while the rest of the room insisted they could hear her speaking, as could I.
What proceeded, I later found out, was not open session. I’d inadvertently heard part of a closed session meeting, and it regarded North Central Health Care CEO Michael Loy. And it was pretty shocking.
