We think Wausau gets pretty interesting after dark. Here are the significant police calls to Wausau taverns for the last month, plus information about liquor licenses and other bar-related matters.

This month’s tavern report is a little light on details (and on incidents), but The Wausonian was able to dig up one car theft from a bar. They’re always more interesting when details are included, and they highlight the work police do. (Truncated reports make their jobs look much easier than they really are.)

Mostly anonymous callers called in several noise complaints against Aftershock Bar and Grill in October. And many of those turned out to be false alarms.

Calls came in to police on Oct. 18 and Oct. 19, according to police reports. An officer on Oct. 18 said the volume wasn’t excessive, though the bass itself was a little bit louder. Police say a “hotdog DJ” adjusted the levels in response to police.

On Oct. 19 police received a report from a named caller who said there were loud people and that the music was loud. Police said when they responded, the volume wasn’t excessive and a bartender there said they had already turned the music down. He said he instructed patrons to use the back fenced-in area if they want to go outside.

On Oct. 26 police received another anonymous caller about excessive noise. In this case, the responding officer said the noise was excessive, and told the bartender he would issue paperwork if the caller comes forward and names themselves.

Finally, later that evening police were told that the music was playing and the lights were on. When police arrived, none of those things were true.

What’s going on?
