When Hannah Dusso and her family moved from Omaha, Neb. to Wausau, she noticed something.
There were a lot of yoga and dance studios — she counts 17 dance studios in the central Wisconsin area alone — but no store with the clothing and supplies they need. In fact, the closest dedicated dance retail shop is in Ashwaubenon.
Having a strong background in dance herself, she decided to step in and fill the gap.
The All Movement Store opened a couple of weeks ago in the store that once housed Magnolia Soap Company. Magnolia moved to Rib Mountain and changed its name, and left the storefront in pretty good shape, Dusso told The Wausonian.
With some help from the building’s owners, and some family sweat equity building the displays and fitting rooms, and making the store look polished, the store opened last month in the downtown Wausau River District.
All Movement Store’s offerings
What does the All Movement Store offer? Everything from the supplies a dancer or yoga practitioner might need, including tap shoes, yoga blocks and mat bags, to comfortable activewear for both men and women.
Dusso was probably the perfect person to build such a store in Wausau. She grew up in the dance arts, worked as a performing artist overseas and taught dance in Seattle. She served as the assistant director of a non-profit dance studio in Omaha.
Dusso and her family moved to Wausau when her husband landed a job as the assistant superintendent at SentryWorld in Stevens Point. At that point she’d also managed national retail brands and had worked in retail part-time for extra income during her dance career.
All that made her perhaps the perfect person to start the All Movement Store.
Gaining attention and collaboration
So far, the women’s clothing has popped off the most - Dusso says she has already been reordering and adding new styles frequently.
As someone from the dance world herself, Dusso wants to support other local dance studios. Besides an instructor’s discount, she plans to start a program where dance studios can host her store for a week, and earn a 5% cut of the sales as a donation to the studio.
And she wants to collaborate with some of the studios around town to do things such as supporting yoga events on the 400 block, collaborating with local studios to support them. She hopes to take advantage of the 400 Block events to find a way to participate in those as well, such as the Night Market or Chalkfest.
For those who love dance or yoga, or just the comfy clothing that goes with them, The All Movement Store is going to be on your radar.
The All Movement Store is located at 320 N. Third Street in downtown Wausau. The store is open 10 am-6 pm. Tues.-Sat.. Find them on Facebook and online.
