I was a little surprised to find myself the only person in Marathon County’s Courtroom B on Thursday morning.

I later found out why from the clerk who was the only other human present in the courtroom; she explained to me that the proceedings would be primarily conducted on Zoom.

I was also the only one present because Ken Charneski, who brought suit against the village, including Clerk Bobbi Jo Birk-LaBarge, former interim Administrator Kim Manley and contracted village attorney Lee Turonie, decided to attend the proceedings in Lincoln County.

But at the end of Thursday’s proceeding, Charneski found himself with one less defendant, and in fact may owe that defendant court costs.
