The Reverend Returns | Your Wausome Weekend Guide
Wausau Events for the weekend of Jan. 28-Feb. 3

Reverend Meantooth
Fri.-Sat., Jan. 30-31: The band 20 Watt Tombstone has been a solid Wausau-grown act that has toured nationally. Reverend Meantooth is the solo project of band frontman Tom Jordan. Armed with a resonator and a mean slide guitar, Meantooth is a tough act to follow and one worth seeing. His bluesy slide-drive resonator guitar and hard-driving songs pack a little something for multiple generations. There are two options to see Reverend Meantooth this weekend, so there’s no excuse to miss his performances.
Check him out Friday night, 8 pm at Malarkey’s;
And 4 pm Saturday at Nevermore on Third
Miracles Convention
Thurs.-Sun., Jan. 29-Feb. 1: It took me a few moments to understand just what exactly the Miracles Convention is - but once I got it, I got it. The conference is focused on providing those in recovery access to outdoor sports. And that can mean anything from ice fishing to skiing and snowboarding to snowshoeing and tubing. The conference features more than 40 panels at the Central Wisconsin Expo Center, but those are mixed with real outdoor experiences at Granite Peak, Nine Mile Forest and more for those in recovery. Learn more at the convention’s website.
The Gift of Slowing Down Mini Retreat
Thursday, Jan. 29: A retreat sounds nice right about now, but sometimes you just can’t get away. Monk Botanical Gardens has a solution for that. The Monk Gardens is hosting a mini retreat called “The Gift of Slowing Down.” Gather in the red yurt on the garden grounds, enjoy a yoga session followed by Yoga Nidra (sometimes called sleep yoga) and forget about the outside world for a while. 5-7:30 pm. $40. See the event page for more.
Garden Visions Conference
Saturday, Jan. 31: If you’re a gardening fanatic, this conference is likely already on your radar. The Garden Visions Conference at Northcentral Technical College has become the biggest such conference in the region, drawing attendees from all over central Wisconsin and beyond. Besides three major speakers — Paul Whitaker, Mark Dwyer and Brett Barker — there will be plenty of vendors bring such items as garden art, honey, tools, hand-made mittens and resources for backyard gardens. The conference includes a catered lunch. 8:30 am to 3:45 pm. $59, other options available. See full details at the event page.
Cozy Game Afternoon
Saturday, Jan. 31: Evercon is a couple of months away still - but the Evercon crew in the meantime has this mini-event for those of you just chomping at the bit to do some gaming. The Story Cellar will host this cozy game afternoon in its basement area. And don’t forget to stop upstairs for some coffee and used books, as well so some by local authors. For those who like tabletop games (The Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, etc) this should be on your calendar. Noon-4 pm. Check out the event page for more.
The Snow Ball
Saturday, Jan. 31: Ever want to return to your prom years? Wausau Pride is putting on this event as a fundraiser for their organization, so dress up in your prom best and enjoy this night of dancing, DJs and even some snacks and beverages to enjoy. This event will be held at the Center for the Visual Arts and is 18+ only. 7 pm. $25. See the event page for more.
