CORRECTED: Document: Former County Clerk candidate paid $23,000 severance from county
Toshia Ranallo received that money as part of her severance agreement from Marathon County
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly described the nature of Ranallo’s departure from the county. The Wausonian regrets the error.
Former County Clerk Candidate Toshia Ranallo was paid $23,000 as part of her severance agreement from Marathon County, a copy of the document obtained by The Wausonian shows.
That severance came after Ranallo was put on paid administrative leave by Marathon County nearly two months before the August election.
Ranallo, who worked as an administrative assistant for Marathon County, challenged incumbent clerk Kim Trueblood in what became a heated Republican primary last summer. Trueblood ultimately won the race by a fairly wide margin: 12,721 votes to 3,091 votes.
The Wausonian had obtained punch records from Marathon County showing she hadn’t clocked in since June 26. Ranallo confirmed to The Wausonian that she had been placed on leave following a meeting with the county human resources director. Ranallo had circulated nomination papers following an off-site work event, violating county policy. Ranallo at the time told The Wausonian that she felt she didn’t do anything wrong because it was off-site and the event had ended.
County Attorney Michael Puerner confirmed to The Wausonian earlier this year that she had ultimately resigned but refused to comment on any of the details, including any questions about a possible severance.
According to the agreement obtained by The Wausonian, the county paid Ranallo $23,000 and health insurance through September. She agreed not to speak publicly about the situation, that the claims are final and that she would not sue the county.
Several sources told The Wausonian she submitted a resume to the village of Kronenwetter for the clerk position left open by Bobbi Jo Birk-LaBarge, who The Wausonian reported has resigned last week. A meeting agenda for the Nov. 25 village board meeting was not yet available as of this story being published.
