Trying to reason with construction season: Mid-July edition
The work you need to know about going on in Wausau and Weston road construction

There’s an old joke that says Wisconsin has two seasons: Winter and construction. I always thought it would be nice to have all the construction projects in the city/metro laid out in one central place so people know where to avoid during construction season. A lot of this gets shared around piecemeal but we think there is value in seeing it all in one place.
We’ve now added Weston construction projects as well!
Wausau construction
Washington Street and other mall area projects: Right now, work is underway on revamping Washington Street. The work will make Washington Street run in two-directions (before it was a one-way street with traffic moving toward Third Street from each direction). UPDATE: Washington Street is currently open to one-way traffic like it was before the construction while work continues on the Foundry on Third site (sans the parking that existed before the work began. The new Third Street and Jackson Street extensions have concrete poured. They remain closed to traffic as well. The project is three weeks ahead of schedule, city officials say. The project is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 1, but while the city contractor is ahead of schedule, the work is on pause waiting for the Foundry on Third building to complete its exterior work before sidewalks can be installed.
Cherry Street: This street will undergo a complete reconstruction and water main replacement. UPDATE: The final layer of asphalt between W. Wausau Avenue to Eldred Street has been completed, confirmed via a drive-by on Monday. Phase three of the project from the 1200 block of Cherry Street heading north was slated to begin July 21. Best alternative route: First Avenue one block over offers the same north south direction for those looking to travel that direction.
