The Wausome Weekend | Your Wausau event guide
Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Rob Brackenridge Comedy, Klein Creek and much more this weekend of March 27-April 2.
Welcome to a brand new feature of The Wausonian: The Wausome Weekend event guide. To split up the Weekly Wausonian, which is increasingly getting too long for email, we decided to pull out the entertainment tab and beef it up a little. Use it as your guide to weekend fun and share it with your friends!
Red Hot Chilli Pipers
Friday, March 28: I know, I say this every time they come to town, and at first I think it’s the 90s band whose bass player is named Flea — but then it turns out just to be the band of pipes with a similar name. The Red Hot Chilli Pipers put on one heck of a show though, and you’ll be amazed at the songs they pull off with bagpipes as the central instruments. They’re a favorite of the Grand Theater’s audience and they’re back this Friday for more. 7:30 pm. $25-$55. See the event page for more and for tickets.
History Speaks — Lost Wausau Architecture
Saturday, March 29: It’s right around the time that you hit “dad” age (whether or not you are actually a dad) when you start becoming really interested in history. So for those this age and up, or others who share a love of history, this is for you. In this presentation, historian Gary Gisselman will explore all the old architecture that has become lost to Wausau’s landscape and its significance to Wausau’s history. Progress is important but it’s also important not to forget the past. 2 pm. Free. See the event page for more details.
Rob Brackenridge Comedy
Friday, March 28: Ever since the Koo-Coo’s Nest closed, comedy in Wausau hasn’t been the same. It’s started to make a comeback though, with bantr hosting some events and a few other places. Timekeeper is getting into the trend and this Friday will host Rob Brackenridge. Brackenridge is a nationally touring comedian who has appeared on Comedy Central and the Bob and Tom Show among others. He’s an Appleton native who moved to LA in 1991 to pursue standup comedy, and he hasn’t stopped since. He’ll also be over at Timekeeper’s Green Bay location Saturday, if you happen to be in that neck of the woods. Have a laugh while you enjoy a cocktail in a historic train depot turned house of mixology. 7 pm. Check out the event page for more.
Klein Creek
Friday, March 28: Uncommon Pints is already a great place to stop for a beer. The place prides itself in providing a unique selection of beers on tap from breweries that you might not be used to seeing around other areas. But this Friday the bar will also host Klein Creek, a husband-wife duo from Stevens Point. Beccy Lynn and Garth Allen play country, bluegrass and other Americana with soaring vocals and intricate guitar passages. All to better wash down one of those uncommon pints with. 7 pm. See the event page for more.
Rock-N-For Pets
Saturday, March 29: Going out and seeing live music is great in and of itself, but what about when it’s for a cause? That’s exactly what’s about to happen at Coral Lanes as the bowling alley hosts Rock-N-For Pets on Saturday. Featuring John Peck and the Bad Dogs, the band’s show will also raise funds for sheltered pets at the Marathon County Humane Society. 7:30 pm. $5 minimum donation. See the event page for more.
Comedy Rock Nite
Saturday, March 29: If you haven’t yet been to Nevermore on Third, it’s one of Wausau’s more unique venues. Which is to say, if you’re a Edgar Allen Poe fan, this might be your new favorite place. The gothic-themed bar and restaurant is hosting a Comedy Rock Nite, and that will include a lineup of four bands and three comedians. The billing doesn’t say who those bands or comedians are, but the bands Bluezdriver and Zippnutts are linked to the event page. That kind of makes it fun - because you really don’t know what you’re going to get. 8 pm. $5. See the event page here.
