Wausau's New Big Weekend: Wings Over Wausau, Chalkfest | Your Wausome Weekend Guide
Wausau area events for June 24-30, 2026
It’s Wausau’s big weekend, and it’s going to be loud! Airplanes at the airport, including Navy fighter jets, plus all that lovely chalk art at Chalkfest. But that’s hardly all, with reggae at Tiki, Greenwood at Faraway, a Concert in the Clouds and much more in Your Wausome Weekend Guide!

Wausau’s New Big Weekend
Wausau Downtown Airport and The 400 Block
Fri.-Sun., June 26-28: Wausau’s big weekend used to be the Balloon Rally and Rib Fest at the Wausau Downtown Airport, with Chalkfest on the 400 Block. But when the balloon rally became Taste N Glow out in the town of Stettin, Wausau Events reinvented its big weekend. Chalkfest remains a mainstay of the weekend, but now Wings Over Wausau takes flight at the airport.
Wings Over Wausau runs 4 pm to 10 pm Friday and Saturday at the Wausau Downtown Airport. This year’s event includes daytime and nighttime airshow performances both days, with fireworks after the Saturday night airshow. One big highlight: the U.S. Navy F/A-18E/F Super Hornet demo team is scheduled to perform, so yes, the Southeast Side is probably going to hear this one. The weekend also includes military and civilian static aircraft displays, food vendors, family activities and live music from Old Pine Road Band on Friday and Susie and the Detonators on Saturday. Saturday also starts with the Clear for Takeoff 5K, with registration at 7 am and the race at 8 am, followed by the Kiwanis pancake breakfast from 7-10 am. See the event page for full details and schedule.
And on Saturday and Sunday, the long-running Chalkfest will pepper the 400 Block downtown with chalk creations. It’s pretty incredible the level of talent that goes into these works. Artist squares are sold out, but visitors can still head downtown to watch the artists work on their chalk art throughout the weekend. Chalkfest runs 8 am to 8 pm Saturday and 8 am to 4 pm Sunday. Be sure to check out the event page for more details.
COTS: Brass Differential
The 400 Block
Wednesday, June 24: There is something about this brass-heavy band — when they march through the crowd without dropping a note, that just seems iconic to the Concerts on the Square series. This Concerts on the Square mainstay plays covers and originals with that brass twist that brings people back to the 400 Block every year. 6-8 pm. See the event page for rules and other information, and keep an eye on Wausau Events’ Facebook page for weather updates (rain location is the Rothschild Pavilion). No blankets before 4 pm (it ruins the grass) no large tables or pets.
Dig Deep
Stoney Acres Farm
Saturday, June 27: Hey, let’s be honest here. We were ROBBED of a great Dig Deep show on the 400 Block stage a couple of weeks ago. Mother Nature just did not cooperate, sending us severe weather. BUT, while that 400 Block show is still coming in September, our favorite metal-inspired bluegrass band is going to rock Stoney Acres, which means pizza is on the menu. So enjoy a night of this great band and have yourself a little ‘za at the same time in the rustic setting that is Stoney Acres. 5 pm, pizza starts at 4 pm. See the event page for full details of Pizza on the Farm Nights.
Sista Sensi Live
Tiki Beach Bar & Grill
Sunday, June 28: Tiki Beach is one of those cool spots in Wisconsin where you can kind of pretend you’re in a tropical place without the blistering heat. And so Sista Sensi is perhaps the perfect complement to that scene: a chill reggae vibe with the smooth, laid-back vocals of Sista Sensi. Sista dreamed of Jamaica since she was little and lived there for 10 years, bringing back reggae music skills that she’s employed to this day. Her band brings that full sound that will fill out the Tiki Beach area while you sit back with a tropical drink and forget about the world for a while. Noon. See the event page for more.
Jack Greenwood w/ Social Cig
Faraway Place
Saturday, June 27: Jack Greenwood might look a little scruffy, but his vocals are super smooth. The singer brings a style that’s modern indie pop/rock, that kind that’s hard to classify, with just a twinge of 70s mixed into modern sensibilities. And it’s one more example of Faraway Place’s commitment to original live music, and we here at The Wausonian are all about it. The Austin-based singer has quite a collection of albums and singles, and his visit to Wausau will be well worth checking out. 8 pm. See the event page for more.
Concerts in the Clouds: Sam Ness
Rib Mountain Amphitheater
Saturday, June 27: I have to say, the event page for this Concert in the Clouds massively undersells the singer kicking off the series this year. The event page describes Sam Ness as “Folk/Americana roots with an Indie feel.” But Ness is a pretty big name for them to get. He’s played everything from cafes to big theaters, shared stages with the likes of America, Styx, Night Ranger and Chris Barron of the Spin Doctors, and he’s won several MAMIs and WAMIs — not easy awards to pick up with the amount of competition around. If you like indie folk/roots, this is your jam high atop Rib Mountain. 6 pm. See the event page to mark your calendar.
