The art of printmaking | Wausome Weekend Guide
Wausau area events for the weekend of May 13-20, 2026
The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum kicks off a new exhibit dedicated to the art of printmaking this weekend. But that’s far from the only Wausau event choice this weekend as Nevermore on Third hosts a punk show, the Wausau Downtown Airport plays host to a Pilot for a Day program, and the library hosts a session on spice blends for grilling. It’s quite the collection this week in Your Wausome Weekend Guide!

Hot off the Presses: From Matrix to Experience
May 16-Aug. 30: Most news organizations these days run digitally first and foremost, but the old art of printmaking still fascinates me. And if it fascinates you, this newest exhibit from the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum is right up both of our alleys. This exhibit span centuries of printmaking, including intaglio, relief, lithography, and serigraphy. But while the art is meant to illustrate the history of printmaking, the prints themselves are absolutely beautiful. Exhibit opens Saturday and runs through Aug. 30. See the exhibit page for more info.
Spice blending for grilling
Saturday, May 16: As the temperatures heat up, people are just itching to get their grills out and start cooking up some Ron Swanson-approved meat. But have you ever thought about blending your own spices? If you have, this event at the Marathon County Public Library will be right up your alley. Try out spices from around the world and leave with a couple of spice blends you can use at your next cookout. Free, adults only. 10 am. Register at the event page.
Pilot for a Day
Sat.-Sun, May 16-17: Ever wanted to try your hand at flying a plane? Pilot for a Day is a program at the Wausau Downtown Airport that allows people new to flying to try out the pursuit with a qualified instructor. The course includes a morning ground school in which you learn the basics of stick and rudder controls, aerodynamics and license options, and then in the afternoon you take to the controls under the guidance of an instructor. The idea is to give people a sense of whether they would want to take the next steps toward becoming a pilot. Tickets for this session are selling out fast, but they offer other sessions throughout the summer too. $150. Starts at 9 am (ground school) and flight slots are then scheduled throughout the weekend. Check out the event page for full details.
Punk at Nevermore
Friday, May 15: Many were glad that Nevermore on Third said they would be keeping the original music shows alive when they took over the Pollack Inn. They’ve kept to their word, keeping the harder music scene alive in Wausau. And that continues this weekend with Wausau band Sleeping with the President headlining this wild and crazy punk show that also includes Stretch 29 and Incoherent Screaming. Nevermore promises a screaming night of rock and roll, and well, I believe them. 9:30 pm. $5. See the event page for more.
Making and Using a Pinhole Camera
Saturday, May 16: OK, so this won’t exactly get you the same results as my Sony mirrorless camera, but it’s fun! If you ever wanted to know how pinhole cameras work — and how early cameras shaped modern technology — this should be a great class. You’ll create the camera, and expose a 12-shot roll of film with it, creating art. The old saying in photography is the best camera is the one you got; in this case, it’ll be the one you build. 9 am-5 pm. $115. Check out the event page for more.
Electric Pixie Prom with The Foragers
Saturday, May 16: OK, so when I first saw this event coming up, I thought Electric Pixie Prom was a band name. Well, it should be. But it’s actually a night of magic, music and dancing along with the band The Foragers at Intermission Bar. The black lights will be in full effect, and neon is encouraged as you listen to the bluegrass sound of this rotating member band. Bluegrass and Day-glow ought to be an interesting combination. Especially with the presence of something called “gnome hats,” whatever that is. 8 pm, music starts at 9 pm. Check out the event page for more.
Upcoming
Horseshoes and Hand Grenades
Thursday, May 28: Horseshoes and Hand Grenades had a pretty incredible rise. They went from playing house parties near the UWSP campus to practically being the house band at Central Waters Brewing Company to playing festivals on the national stage. But the band hasn’t forgotten its Wisconsin roots, and regularly plays this special event at Stoney Acres Farm. The ticket price gets you all you can eat farm-to-table pizza, three hours of Horseshoes and Hand Grenades’ brand of Wisconsin-born bluegrass, and a look at opening act Humbird. These tickets have historically sold out, so we wanted to give Wausonian readers a heads-up. 6 pm. $49. See the event page for more.
