Bull Falls Brewery could re-open as soon as mid-March
A conversation with Bull Falls Brewery's new owner with an update
On Friday The Wausonian broke a pretty big story: That a new owner had purchased Bull Falls Brewery.
The Wausonian caught up with that new owner, Kurt Mueller, on Monday. And he’s got a pretty optimistic timeline for re-opening.
Mueller and his business partner plan to run Bull Falls Brewery as a brewery, keeping the name, the beer and even the event, Mueller says.
They’re in the process of getting the state permits right now. Mueller says they were told that the process could take 4-6 weeks. And, he says, they already have beer ready to go.
While a specific reopening date is tough to say, Mueller tells The Wausonian, residents could see the place open and serving beer by mid-March. Mueller plans to keep the name.
I asked Mueller how he learned about Bull Falls and Mueller says he actually lives between Dorchester and Athens, and he comes to Wausau a lot including for biking. He has been following news about Bull Falls Brewery for some time.
The brewery is separate from his work on Critical Dimensions he says.
And, while he was able to get the brewery for $250,000, he also has to pay the back taxes on the property as part of the agreement. That’s about $100,000. But that’s still a good deal for the brewery, he told The Wausonian.
Mueller says he had previously offered the now-former owners $495,000 for the brewery and was turned down.
One interesting thing Mueller pointed out is that they plan to handle distribution themselves early on. He said there are 10-15 places nearby that want Bull Falls beer, and he thinks they can handle that themselves to start. Later on there could be an opportunity for larger distribution if the business grows.
I asked Mueller if he had anything to else he would like Wausonians to know about the new Bull Falls Brewery.
“Tell them we’re making some changes to make it better, we’re working on quite a few things,” Mueller says. “As soon as we get the permits, beer will be available.”
Great! We'll be patiently waiting to enjoy a beer there again. And he's a cyclist :-)
