The Wausonian reported earlier this year on what happened with Adam Grahn, who quietly left as Mosinee Fire Chief after the district’s fire commission ordered an investigation into complaints made against him.
We were the first to report that Grahn had agreed to a separation agreement with the district. The investigation was never completed.
That came after the city announced it had a new fire chief. Nothing had been made public about the separation agreement.
The Wausonian filed an open records request for the complaints themselves. Then Grahn filed for an injunction to block the release of those records. Grahn argued that they were unproven allegations, classified them as false, and said allowing them to be made public would unduly harm his reputation.
Marathon County Judge Michael Moran ultimately didn’t agree that the records should be withheld. He ruled against the injunction on Oct. 13. The district’s attorney, Shane VanderWaal, then drafted the written order, signed Oct. 27, and sent The Wausonian the records Oct. 28.
Here is what they say, alleging everything from sexual misconduct to not filling out forms that potentially cost the district money in lost reimbursements. These complaints were never substantiated through an investigation, because the investigation was never completed.
